1) BSI / STAND PRECAUTIONS 2) explain procedure to pt instruct them not to move and visualize the wound 3) apply and maintain direct pressure using gloves hand first then a sterile dressing until bleeding is controlled 4) if bleeding persists apply pressure dressing over dressing already in place and wrap with bandage tight enough to control bleed, NEVER remove already placed dressings 5) if unable to control hemorrhage use tourniquet 6) monitor for reoccurring hemorrhage 7) if bleed is controlled perform PMS on injured limb and treat for shock DONT bandage dressing in place until bleed is controlled |
