What are the functions of the cell membrane

Recognition

Protein

Selectively allows substances to pass through

Respond to the environment

What kind of substances need to be transported across the membrane

Amino acids

Glucose

Fatty acids

glycerol

And ions

How does particle size affect how substances are transported through the cells.

The smaller the particle of the substance it will be transported across the membrane via active and passive transport.

What is the difference between passive transport and active transport

Passive transport can occur through diffusion where by molecules spread from an area of high concentration to low concentration and also via osmosis which is the movement of water molecules across a partial permeable membrane. Whereas Active transport is an energy consuming transport of molecules or ions across a membrane against a concentration gradient.
