atom
Tiny particles that make up everything in the universe. Each atom is made up of even tinier parts.
negative charge
The kind of electric charge carried by ELECTRONS.
electron
A negatively charged particle of an atom. They zoom around the outside of the atom.
proton
A positively charged particle in the nucleus (centre) of the atom.
positive charge
The kind of charge a PROTON carries.
nucleus
The centre of the ATOM. Neutrons and protons are in the nucleus.
neutrons
A particle in the nucleus of the atom. The neutron has no charge, therefore it is neutral.
static electricity
One kind of electricity where the electrons are NOT flowing (that's what "static" means). Caused by negative charges (electrons) transferring from one object to another through rubbing.
current electricity
One kind of electricity where the electrons ARE flowing along.
