What is the pneumatic system used for? |
Air-conditioning Cabin pressurisation Engine and airframe anti icing Engine starting Hyd res Px TAT probe heating Potable water pressurisation |
Where is air for pressurisation supplied from? |
Hp2 Hp6 APU |
Front (Term) |
2 needle pressure indicator Duct leak- overheat detector detects duct leak Bleed- system over heat 490f respective engine HPSOV & PRSOV closed Hi stage- over pressure at system out put HPSOV closed (hp6 outlet shut off) can be reset on ground Valve - disagreement light L/R Eng bleed valves closed |
Explain the supply of engine bleed air |
Hp2 supply’s majority of bleed air with hp6 assisting as required when Eng output is reduced eg. low Eng rpm |
Where is engine anti icing bled from? |
Hp2 air upstream of the intermediate check valve |
What does the HPSOV do? |
Controls the flow of HP6 air using a pneumatically operated spring loaded closed butterfly valve to ensure downstream Px is at least 55psi |
What controls the HPSOV? |
High stage controller(HS pilot) |
What is the temp of output bleed air? |
360f to 400f |
What does the pre cooler modulating valve do? |
Controls the flow of air through the pre cooler. Spring loaded open pneumatically closed |
Functions of PRSOV |
Electrical on/off control Pressure regulation (40-53psi) Temp limiting |
At what temperature does the temp limiting function of the PRSOV come into effect? |
450f-495f |
Purpose of the reverse flow check controller? |
Senses Px differential across the PRSOV if down stream Px exceeds upstream Px by 0.37psi PRSOV & HPSOV are temporarily closed |
Ground air connections locations? |
Wing to body fairing 2 on LH 1 on RH |
When can APU bleed air be used? |
On ground and inflight upto 19000ft |
What interlocks prevent the use of APU bleed air |
The APU must be at 95% rpm Lh Eng and APU fire switches must be unarmed Lh prsov must be closed Either he prsov or isolation valve must be closed |
How is the pneumatic system monitored? |
Pressure - dual needle indicator on p5 -digitally on EICAS Temperature -EICAS maint page as PRECOOL OUT -bleed light on p5 |
Purpose of altitude switches |
Set to 31000ft they adjust the schedule of the HS pilot to reduce available air from HP6 |
Which areas of the leading edge slats are anti iced? |
#2, 3, 4, 7, 8 & 9 |
Which respect to anti icing what allows for slat movement? |
Telescoping ducts and flexible couplings |
How would you test the thermal anti icing system? |
Wing anti ice/probe heat switch on P61. System is limited automatically to 12sec to prevent overheating |
What are the functions of HS pilot? |
Electrical on/off Bleed source control Two level altitude flow control Overpressure shuttoff |
