Ballpark, how many volts can come out of a 120 ohm dynamic microphone?

Many volts.

Why would you use a PZM (pressure zone microphone)?

In a room, you can have standing waves, except on the floor or wall (the edges). Putting a microphone here is safer to avoid these waves.

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which is more rugged?

Dynamic

What is a cardioid pattern?

Almost all pickup in front and none in back.

What is a hypercardiod pattern?

It is even more focused than a supercardiod, but also allows a little more in the rear.

What is an omni pattern?

Equal in all directions.

What is a supercardiod pattern?

Much like cardiod, but more focused in front and picks up a little more in the rear. Even so, it tends to be better at eliminating background noise.

What is a shotgun microphone?

It is a case in which another mic is placed. It has slots running down the sides. When sound approached the mic from the sides, the slots create some phase cancellation.

This is used in film for scenes where you want to hear conversation, but don't want visible mics.

Is line level voltage the same for consumer and professional products?

No. Sensitivity is higher and output is also higher (about 12 dB) for professional equipment.

What is an XY recording pattern?

What is a mid-side recording pattern?

The figure-8 mic should be listening to the sides (not front and back).

When would you use the mid-side recording pattern?

When you want to vary the directionality.

How do you use the mid side recording technique (in DAW)?

Copy the side-recording into another track and invert it. Then pan the original hard one side and the inverted copy to the other side. Then make the volume the same on both and adjust them up or down to add or remove a stereo sound.

What is a waveguide?

It confines a wave to propagate in one direction, so that, under ideal conditions, the wave loses no power while propagating.

How much faster in water than in air at sea level is the speed of sound?

About x4.

In electronics, when do you use waveguides?

Reaching frequencies into the GHz, transmission lines are "excessive". There is too much power loss.

In electronics, when do you use fiber optics?

It's useful when operating in THz, when transmission lines and waveguides are too inefficient.

What is an Audio Crossover?

It filters audio to split it to speakers that react to different frequency ranges.

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which need phantom power?

Cardiod

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which is more sensitive (higher output)?

Cardiod

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which has a better frequency response?

Cardiod

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which is less probe to overload distortion?

Dynamic

Dynamic vs Cardiod microphone:

Which is more expensive?

Cardiod

In audio, what is SPL?

Sound Pressure Level
