1. They become ningún and algún before masculine singluar nouns
2. They are seldom used in the plural "Ningún aspirante supo contestar las preguntas correctamente." |
|
Notes on ninguno
"None of these employees has unemployment insurance." |
3. Ninguno/a may be followed by de + a noun phrase
"Ninguno de estos empleados tiene seguro de desempleo." |
|
Use of "personal a" before
nadie/alguien, alguno/ninguno when they function as DO "Do you know anyone in this company?" "No, I don't knot anyone there." |

"No, no conozco a nadie aquí." |
|

|
|

|
Talking about generalities and giving information:
The Impersonal se |
1. When we talk about generalities without mentioning a specific subject ("they want...", "people say that.."), use the pattern
se + third personal singular verb + que |
|
Using personal se to report an action in the passive voice that does not specify who is doing the action.
"A computer engineer is needed." "Bilingual business administrators are needed." |
se + 3rd person singluar verb + singluar subject
se + 3rd person plural verb + plural subject "Se necesita ingeniero en computadoras." "Se necesitan administradores de empresa bilingües." |
|
The impersonal se is also used in signs that give information or warning.
"For rent..." "Spanish spoken here." "Please don't touch." "For sale." |
"Se alquila(n)..."
"Se habla español." "Se ruega no tocar." "Se vende(n). |
|
Describing general qualities:
lo + [más/menos]+ singular masculine adjective |
To describe general qualities or abstract ideas, as in "the good thing", "the interesting thing", etc., Spanish uses the neuter article lo followed by an adjective.
For emphasis or to express degree of quality, the words más or menos may be added. |
|
"The good thing about this job is the flexible hours."
"The most important thing about the interview was the salary negotiation." |
"Lo bueno de este trabajo es el horario flexible."
"Lo más importante de la entrevista fue la negociación del salario." |
|
Describing general qualities
Use of "lo que" "What (the thing that) I love about my job is..." "Ask Luisa what a social worker does." |
lo que = the thing that/what
"Lo que me encanta de mi trabajo es..." "Pregúntale a Luisa lo que hace un/a asistente social." |
|
Explaining what you want others to do:
Indirect Commands |
A. Form: uses present subjunctive
B. Sentence Structure: que, meaning "let/may/have", is always used to introduce the indirect command. The subject may go before the verb or after the object. |

"Que Inés te dé los nuevos contratos." 2. to express good wishes to another person. "¡Que tengas suerte en la entrevista!" |
