Nuclear Family

Primarily seen as consisting of an adult man and women, in a socially acceptable sexual relationship with children

Extended Family

Consists of a man and woman, in a socially accepted sexual relationship with children but also includes grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins etc.

Beanpole Family

It can include grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles etc. but the relationships tend to be linear with just one offspring leading to a long thin family structure

Lone Parent Family

Made up of a single parent with a child. Despite the large numbers of these, they are still widely stigmatized

Reconstituted Family

When two divorced adults come together with children from previous relationships which forms a family of step-parents and step-children
