Actuality

Is where an object fulfils its potential and becomes something else.

Contingent

Something which need not exist.

Disinterested

Having no stake in something.

Efficient Cause

What makes the thing that is caused: The agent(s) that cause something to exist.

Empiricist

Believes that the primary source of knowledge is gained through the 5 senses.

Eudomonia (eudaimonia)

Flourishing.

Final Cause

The function that the object preforms: its purpose.

Immaterial

That which is not formed out of matter.

Formal Cause

What determines the object (characteristics) and makes it to be what it is.

Matter

That of which something is made of: Substance.

Material Cause

What something is made of: What its substance is.

Metaphysics

Literally 'after physics'.



Aristotle's book, 'Metaphysics' examines the question what is being? Seeking to explain the nature of being.



Matter+form= Substance



(E.g, stone+blueprint=statue)

Necessary being

Something that does not depend on anything else for its existence- Cannot not exist. (E.g, Prime Mover).

Prime Mover

The self-moved being that causes all motion.



-He is unaware of Humans



-The universe's ultimate telos is being completely pulled in towards the Prime mover

Potentially

When something contains ingredients or inherent qualities to become something else (e.g, acorn changing into an oak tree).

Teleology

The study of the universe in terms of ends or final causes.

Telos

Purpose or end goal/result.

Hyle

Substance: what it is made out of.

Creatio ex nihilo

'creation out of nothing'
