MRP

the component planner. it determines the materials and quantities needed to make a product and when. it consists of: order release and recipt dates for the purchase and manufacture of components and thefinal assembly operation.

CRP

Capacity Requirements planning. the check for capacity to perform the MRP


PAC

Production Activity control. MRP is the input for PAC. it plans the release and reciept dates for orders. it is responsbibly of purchasing.

BOMs

bill of materials. list of all parts. see def on 4-15. textbook says it is the most important document in a manufacturing company! it is a major building block of the MRP.


all manufactured items have one.

subassemblies

components of another assembly.

planning bill

is different than BOM as it plans material requirements for a family of end products where there are several variations

Where-used report

liists all of the items or parents in which a component is used WHETHER there is demand for the parent or not. pg 4-25

Pegging

shows only parents for which there is an exisiting requirement. pg 4-25

offsetting

the process of determining when a planned order relases is needed in advance of the planned order receipt date of the item. AKA placing the requirements (planned order releases) in their proper time periods based on lead time

exploding

process of determining the total of each component needed for a parent

the planned order release of the parent determines the gross requirement of the component

true. the reciept happens lead time amount after the release.


net requirements equation

net requirements= gross requirement-available inventory. practice 4-36, 4-39 and 4-43**

planned orders

created by planning software when it encounters net requirements.

firm planned orders

is a toold that enables the planner to override the MRP logic. the planner person has control of releasing order incase of something the system doesnt know about

released orders

planners are responsible for releasing, aided by aciton messages from the MRP system. once released it becomes an open order. this can be expidited, changed, canceled etc by the person. releasing ensures work is done on time to meet net requirements.


it involves:


-releasing a planned order


-scheduling a reciept


-creating an open order


-allocating components to the order




note this also tells purchasing to buy material and manufacturing to make components.
