Neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils |
What are the 3 GRANULOCYTES? |
Granulocytes |
Also called granuloleukocytes or polymorphonucleocytes (PMN's) |
Neutrophils |
(Phagocytic) What makes up about 70% of circulating WBC's and have cytoplasmic granules? They also secrete prostaglandins which increase capillary permeability causing inflammation, and they secrete leukotrienes which attract other WBC's into the infected site |
Basophils |
(Phagocytic) This granulocyte contains histamine, heparin and other substances that are released in response to the presence of pathogens and allergens. |
Eosinophils |
(Phagocytic) This granulocyte has granular contents and are released to respond to the parasites and allergens. Their granules contain cytotoxic proteins (enzymes) that can be released to kill or Lise open pathogens and infected cells. |
Histamine |
______ is a Vasodilator, dilates blood vessels, increases inflammation.. released by basophil |
Heparin |
______ is an Anticoagulant, prevents blood clotting.. |
