The Black Death
Aka The Bubonic Plague. A disease that wiped out approx 25-50% of Europes population in the years 1347-1351. Although it had been around for years before that and for centutries after, those are the years that are associated with the most death. The disease most likely came from Asia and was spread by rats on boats. As well, it is no wonder it spread so feverishly because sanitiation and personal hygiene were terrible

The Black Death Effects on: Art, Economy, Religion and the Jews.
The Black Death brought about an era of extreme death, so it is natural the paintings and art of the time depicted that feeling. The cities were hit the hardest, so when the plague had died out mostly, workers in the city were needed. Many serfs ranaway from their ties to the land and went to start a new life in the City. Nobles were mad, but the cities needed the workers, so they made the "City Air Makes You Free" act, which said if the serfs could runaway, not get caught, and provide a home for themselves for one year and one day, their serf ties were broken. The honest and good clergy were out and hands-on helping the plague infested people while the corrupt were looking out for themselves. This started a downward spiral of corruption as, in events to follow, the Catholic Church begins exercising curropt practices. ALSO the Jewish community was not dying in such high percentages, this can be attributed to their cleaniness practices. But the dying people NOT of Jewish faith saw the Jews not dying and figured it must be because they (Jews) were poisoning wells.

The Hundred Years War
1337-1453
The English King was a vassal to the French King. When the french king died with no clear heir the english king said that he had claim to the throne. The French wouldn't stand for an English King on their throne and when the English invaded, the French retaliated and this launched the Hundred Years War. This gives us Joan of Arc, the End of the Knights and how battles are fought. |

Unum Sanctum (and the reactions)
In 1302, Pope Boniface VIII issued a papal bull that said when Spiritual and Temporal Authority get into a disagreement, Spiritual always wins. This was in direct conflict with Phillip IV because Phillip raised taxes without getting the popes permission. Phillip responded by getting his soliders to kidnap the Pope and bring him out of Italy. They don't make it past the border but the stress of the ordeal gives the Pope a heart attack.
