26 Cards in this Set

  • Front
  • Back

Anterior Chamber

The area bound in front by the cornea and in back by the lens and filled with aqueous

Aqueous

A clear, watery solution in the anterior and posterior chambers

Artery

The vessel supplying blood to the eye

Canal of Schlemm

The passageway for aqueous fluid to leave the eye

Choroid

carries blood vessels and is the inner coat between the sclera and the retina

Ciliary Body

unseen part of the iris, together with the ora serrata from the uveal tract

Conjunctiva

a clear membrane covering the white of the eye (sclera)

Cornea

a clear, transparent portion of the outer coat of the eyeball through which light passes to the lens

Iris

provides eye color and functions like the aperture on a camera, enlarging in dim light and contracting in bright light. The aperture itself is called the pupil

Lens

helps to focus light on the retina

Macula

a small area in the retina that provides our most central, acute vision

Optic Nerve

conducts visual impulses to the brain from the cornea

Ora Serrata & Ciliary body

form the uveal tract, an unseen part of the iris

Posterior Chamber

located behind the iris, in front of the lens, filled with aqueous

Pupil

the opening, or aperture, of the iris

Rectus Medialis

One of the six extra ocular muscles of the eye

Retina

The innermost coat of the back of the eye, formed of light sensitive endings that carry the visual impulse to the optic nerve. The retina may be compared to the film of a camera

Sclera

the white of the eye

Vein

A vessel that carries blood away from the eye

Vitreous

a transparent, colorless mass of soft, gelatinous material filling the eyeball behind the lens

Frontalis Muscle

Controls movement and raising of eyebrow

Muller’s Muscle

When tired/relaxed the eyelid drops or sags

Levator Palpebrae Superioris Muscle

Primary function to elevate and retract upper eyelid

Orbicularis Oculi Muscle

Close the eyelids

Cones are

Color sensitive, fine detailed vision and located towards posterior of retina. 6 million

Rods are

Light sensitive and for low vision. 120 million, located nearby front of retina
