What were the differences between men and women for their role in the family?
Women: wealthy ones ran the households and hired slaves and professional nurses. Poor ones had to work hard to earn money.
Men: Had to provide for the family. They were expected to have two kids in the family. It was their job to support the woman.

Wealthy Roman people, or their slaves, visited markets for the perfect ingredients for dinner parties.

Even thought they thought that everything was because of the gods, they still figured out ways to cure themselves other than praying to the gods. They used "natural medicines"

Mustard, garlic, and walnuts.

They used sharp equipments on operations. It really hurt, because painkillers weren't invented yet. They would also go to the Gods for help.
What were the most common crimes?
Murder, assault, theft, mistreatment of slaves, and defacing of private property.
When did crimes usually happen? Why:
At night because of lack of outdoor lighting, so Roman guards protected the wealthier neighborhoods.
How would they go out at night?
Wealthy men had to disguise themselves to prevent muggings. Wealthy women and children were forbidden to go out at night.
What did they do for entertainment? What does this show about their personalities?
There were plays, theatre, chariot races, and gladiators in the coliseum. They were sophisticated because they liked plays and theatre. They were violent because they liked blood sport: gladiators.
Why were the roman roads important?
the romans were known as the greatest road-builders of all time, and this was how they controlled their empire. some still last until today. they minute the conquered a place, a road was built, connecting it to Rome.
How were the roman roads bad?
They were bad because the Barbarians just marched right into Rome, and conquered it.
What does their travel tell us about them?
That only wealthy people were able to afford traveling for pleasure.
Patricians and their role in society:
were at the top of the Roman society. provided the empires political, religious, and military leadership.
senators and their role in society:
had much less power than those higher than them, but still had the right to get the title of emperor. ithe senate was made entirely of patricians, and they were a powerful and major aspect in politics and government.
equestrians and their role in society:
they were ranked immediately below senators. after serving as an army officer, one might become an agent of the emperor. would then become a government administrator.
plebeians and their role in society:
rome's working class (average). they worked hard to support their families and pay their taxes. usually bakers, farmers, builders, or craftsmen.
slaves:
an abusive and degrading institution, with cruelty and commonplace. usually worked in mines, private households, factories, and farms.
emperor and his role in society:
it was a job for life, so if an emperor was mad, bad, or dangerous, the only solution was to kill him. usually became one from inheritance.
