Femoral Triangle |
-Bordered by sartorus muscle laterally, adductor longus muscle medially, and inguinal ligament (extends from anterior superior iliac spine to pubic tubercle) at the base -The floor is made up of the iliopsas muscle laterally and the pectineus muscle medially -Femoral Nerve and Femoral Sheath lie within it |
|
Femoral Sheath Order |
NAVEL: Nerve Artery Vein Empty space for Lymph nodes
from lateral to medial
Think venus to the penis! |
|
Femoral Nerve **Skip for now |
Arises from the lumbar plexus (L1-L4), descends into thigh, passes posterior to the inguinal ligament and anterior to the iliopsas muscle; in the thigh it lies lateral to femoral sheath; ends distal to inguinal ligament by splitting into lots of muscular and cutaneous branches |
|
Femoral Artery: origin and branches **Skip for now |
Origin: direct continuation of external iliac artery Branches: 1. deep femoral artery, which runs parallel and posterior to the femoral artery and lies on the anterior surface of adductor magnus, then penetrates it to innervate posterior compartment 2. medial femoral circumflex artery, passes between the pectineus and psoas major muscles to enter posterior compartment on medial side of femur to supply head and neck of femur |
|
Adductor Canal (what does it contain and what are its borders?) |
-Contains femoral vessels (vein and artery) and saphenous nerve, a branch of the femoral nerve that innervates the skin on the medial half of the knee and leg -Vastus medius, Sartorius, and Adductor Longus |
