Amendment XI - Suits against states.The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State. This amendment sets limits on when a state can be sued. It gives immunity to states from law suits from out-of-state citizens and foreigners not living within the states border.


Amendment XII - Revises the procedure for the Election of a President. The 12th Amendment was ratified in 1804. During the administration of Thomas Jefferson, and changed Presidential election rules, applying to both the President and the Vice President.


Amendment XIII - This amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude. The 13th Amendment was ratified in 1865.During the administration of Abraham Lincoln just before his assassination, ending slavery in the United States.

Amendment XIV - Makes all citizens equal protection of the laws. the 14th Amendment was aimed at protecting the citizenship rights and equal protection of all Americans but primarily former slaves. The 14th amendment says that you are not allowed to discriminate.


Amendment XV- The 15th Amendment protects voting rights of all American citizens. This, paired with the 14 amendment guarantee that all former slaves were American citizens, guaranteed African-Americans the right to vote. The 15th amendment says that no one can put up restrictions on the right to vote based on a person's color or race.

Amendment XVI - The 16th amendment gave the federal government the power to collect income tax. Every person that gets a pay check will pay for government services.

Amendment XVII- The 17th amendment lets voters elect the senators. The amendment says that the people will elect two senators from each state. The senators will serve a term of 6 years.

Amendment XVIII - The 18th amendment prohibits selling,drinking, or making alcohol. The 18th amendment is the only amendment that is no longer a law. During this amendment they had called it the prohibition.

Amendment XIX - The 19th amendment gives women the right to vote. The movement to let women vote was the suffrage movement. For some the 15th amendment did not apply to women.

Amendment XX - The 20th amendment changes the dates for Presidential and congressional term. During the administration of FDR,changed the days for meetings of Congress and for the start of the President's term of office.It was ratified in 1933.

Amendment XXI- The 21st amendment says that the government takes away amendment 18. Amendment 21 says that it no longer prohibits selling,making, or drinking alcohol. The amendment was ratified in 1933.

Amendment XXII - The 22nd amendment says that president can only have two terms. This amendment say that it prohibits the president from having more than two terms. This amendment was ratified after FDR's third term.

Amendment XXIII - Give the population of Washington, D.C. right to vote. Provided that Washington, DC be allowed representatives in the Electoral College. This way the citizens of Washington DC would have a vote for the president even though they are not officially part of a state.

Amendment XXIV - The 24th amendment says that people don't have to pay a tax, called a poll tax, in order to vote. During the administration of Lyndon Johnson, making it illegal to make anyone pay a tax to have the right to vote.The 24th Amendment was ratified in 1964

Amendment XXV - This amendment defined the presidential succession if something should happen to the president. The first person to be up for the presidents job would be vice - president. The vice - president take over for the rest of the presidents term.

Amendment XXVI - This amendment changed the national voting age to 18. Before this amendment was into place the voting age was 21. This amendment was put into place after FDR lowered the age of military draft to 18.

Amendment XXVII - States that Congressional salary changes can not take effect until the beginning of the next session of Congress. Limits the power of Congress to increase its own salaries. It basically means they cannot make there salary more money.
