Moveable stairway which is driven up to an aircraft door and allows Customers to board and deplane.

ARM
The process of preparing an escape slide for use in an evacuation. When the door is opened in the armed mode, the escape slide will automatically deploy and inflate.
ATC
The process of preparing an escape slide for use in an evacuation. When the door is opened in the armed mode, the escape slide will automatically deploy and inflate.
BID
The process of submitting your preferences for monthly schedules.
BLUE CITY
A city that JetBlue flies to and from
BULKHEAD
A wall or partition used to separate aircraft areas such as galleys and lavatories.
CABIN
The Customer compartment of the aircraft.
CAPTAIN
The Crewmember in charge of the aircraft, Crew, and cargo.
CART
Mobile unit used for catering of service items and supplies such as ice, beverages, snacks, and waste.
AIRPORT CODE
The three-letter abbreviations by which each airport is identified. For example, Buffalo, NY is BUF.
COCKPIT
The compartment of the aircraft from which the pilot controls the aircraft (also known as the flight deck)
COMAT
Intra-company mail system utilizing Company flights as the courier
COMPLIANCE CHECK
Verification that Customers are adhering to safety regulations.
CREWMEMBER

CREW BASE
Specific airport from which all trips will begin and end for Inflight Crewmembers
CRO
Complaint Resolution Official: A JetBlue Crewmember charged with specific duties and authority to resolve complaints sometimes made by Customers.
CX
Code for flight cancellation
DEADHEADING
Flight or Inflight Crewmembers travelling on company business as non-working Crew, either in a Customer seat or jumpseat.
DISARM
The process of disabling the escape slide. When the door is opened in the disarmed mode, the escape slide will not deploy
DOT
Department of Transportation: The US Government Agency that oversees various aspects of travel (air, rail. Etc.)
ENTRY DOORS
The doors on A/C left used for Customer boarding and deplaning. They are occasionally referred to as L1 or L2
EXIT ROW SEATS
Seats from which a Customer can go directly to an exit without first stepping in to the main aisle.

FAA
Federal Aviation Administration: The US Government Agency that sets the standards and monitors the procedures for aircraft and people who work in the aviation industry.

Federal Aviation Regulations: Regulations set forth by the FAA by which air carriers must abide.
FAA MINIMUM CREW
The minimum number of Inflight Crewmembers required by the FAA to staff a particular type of aircraft.

First Officer: This Crewmember assists the Captain in the Flight Deck and is second in command of the aircraft.
FSB SIGN
Fasten Seat Belt Sign.
FUSELAGE
The body of the aircraft
FWD
Forward: The front of the aircraft
GALLEY
Kitchen of an airplane used for storing catering supplies and preparing snacks and beverages for Inflight Service.
GSC
Ground Security Coordinator: A JetBlue Crewmember responsible for evaluating and implementing security procedures for each flight at the airport.
IFC

IFE
In-Flight Entertainment: JetBlue Entertainment System on all aircraft that includes thirty-six channels of free DIRECT TV, up to four channels of JetBlue Features Pay Per View Movies and up to one hundred channels of XM Satellite Radio.

Irregular Operations (such as a weather event)
ISC
Inflight Security Coordinator: Much like the GSC described above, this Crewmember is empowered to evaluate and resolve various security-related scenarios that occur while airborne. This is an additional responsibility of the Captain.
JET BRIDGE
Mobile walkway which connects the terminal to the aircraft. Customers board and deplane through the jet bridge.
J/S
Jumpseat: The retractable seat IFCs occupy for takeoff, landing, during turbulence in-flight and while the aircraft moves on the surfaces of the airport.
LAV
Lavatory: The restroom facility onboard the A/C.
LEG
A flight segment. Example: A flight from JFK to BUF is one leg.
MEL
Minimum Equipment List: A list of equipment that must be in working order so that a flight may be legally dispatched for operation with Customers and Crewmembers onboard.
NARROW BODY
Aircraft designed with a single aisle.
NTSB
National Transportation Safety Board: US Government Agency that is responsible for investigating all transportation-related incidents.

OHB
Overhead Bin: The enclosed storage space directly above cabin seats.
PAIRING
A series of flight legs built together to form the trip an Inflight Crewmember or Pilot is assigned to work. A pairing can range from 1-5 days.

POB
Portable Oxygen Bottle: Bottle containing oxygen under pressure, used in emergency situations.
PUSHBACK
The action of pushing the aircraft back from the gate using a piece of ground service equipment called a tug.
RON
Remain overnight (aircraft stays overnight at Blue City)
RUNWAY
The surface on which the aircraft takes off and lands.
SERVICE DOORS
The doors on A/C right by which the caterers and other support personnel deliver their services. They are occasionally referred to as R1 or R2.
SLIDE
Escape slide used for evacuations. Constructed of rubberized canvas and inflates when deployed.
SLIDE/RAFT
Escape slide used for evacuations. This can also be used in a water evacuation as a raft. Constructed of rubberized canvas and inflates when deployed.
STOW
The act of storing an item brought onboard.
STERILE COCKPIT
The period of time when the aircraft is moving on the ground, or flying under 10,000 ft. There is no communication other than that of an emergency nature allowed between the Flight Deck and the Inflight Crew.
TAXI
All surface movement of the aircraft prior to takeoff or after landing in which the aircraft is moving on its own power.
TAXIWAY
The ramp/tarmac area used by all aircraft when moving between the runway and the gate area.

WIDE BODY
Aircraft designed with 2 aisles.
ZULU TIME
Also known as Coordinated Universal Time or UTC. Used as the standard time in aviation to avoid confusion over local time zones, e.g. “the flight departed at 1600z”. It is roughly equivalent to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
