Measure IOP after 4 weeks of therapy


Do not stop abruptly


MONITOR PULSE PRIOR TO GIVING/VS AFTER


HOLD GENTLE PRESSURE ON NASOLACRIMAL SAC FOR 60 SECS AFTER ADMINISTRATION


Monitor for stinging/burning/irritation


Review eye drop administration with patient


Contacts must be taken out before administrating


IF GIVEN WITH PILOCARPINE --> GIVE TIMOLOL FIRST AND WAIT 5 MINS IN B/T

Use: Tx of glaucoma


Action: Constricts the pupil drawing the iris away from the cornea helping drain aqueous humor

Pilocarpine Side Effects

Urinary urgency


Bradycardia


Decreased visual acuity d/t pupil constriction


Decreased night vision d/t pupil unable to dilate


Frontal headache


Retinal detachment

Pilocarpine Nursing Interventions

Monitor IOP, monitor blurred vision or changes in vision


APPLY GENTLE PRESSURE ON NASOLACRIMAL SAC FOR 2 MINS AFTER INSTALLATION OF DROPS


AVOID DRIVING 1-2 HRS AFTER INSTALLATION


SAFETY FOR NIGHTIME DRIVING AND AMULATION


Monitor for S/S of retinal detachment
