Adrenaline

D: 0.25–1 mg

Endogenous neurotransmitter, used in life threatening conditions: cardiac arrest, bronchoconstriction, laryngeal edema (with or without anaphylactic shock), status asmathicus. Or for local administration: prolongation of local anesthetic action, or to stop bleeding (tooth extraction, nasal bleeding).

Positive heart effects, vasodilation, increasing systolic BP

Noradrenaline

endogenous post-ganglionic neurotransmitter, used to correct severe hypotension. Mainly acts on α1and β1receptors. Increases BP (both).

Dopamine

endogenous neurotransmitter. Precursor of A and NA. Causes vasodilation, increasing renal blood flow. Negative feedback of D2-R can inhibit NA release. In high doses also has effect on α1and β1receptors.Used in shock (particularly to save the kidneys).

Dobutamine

(synthetic) β1-receptor agonist. Sympathomimetic drug, may increase CO. Used in cardiogenic shock.

Isoprenaline

extremely potent (synthetic) selective β receptor agonist.

It induces + heart effects and vasodilation. Used for the treatment of bradycardia, heart block, Adams-Stokes Syndrome, shock.

Salbutamol, Salmeterol, Terbutaline, Fenoterol, Formoterol, Clenbuterol, Albuterol

selective β2 receptor agonists. Used for asthma and uterine relaxant (to avoid premature labour)

Phenylephrine

selective α1receptor agonist.

It is notmetabolized by COMT, therefore has a prolonged/long duration of action.

Used for mydriasis, nasal decongestant and to raise BP.

Naphazoline, Oxymetazoline, Xylometazoline

selective α-receptor agonists. Produces constriction in the venous system. Naphazoline used as nasal decongestant.

Pholedrine

Selective α-receptor agonist used to treat hypotonia (p.os).

Clonidine, Guanfacine, Guanabenz, Methyl-DOPA, Dexmedetomidine, Xylazine

selective α2 receptor agonist. Act in the vasomotor centre and also used to treat muscle spasm, cramps or stiffness.

Clonidine, guanfacine, guanabenz = imidazole derivatives. Used to decrease BP also.
