Far West

People who lived in the Far West experienced harsh Winters and brutal Summers. They ate small game, fish, and berries. Housing differed depending on the area, they could live in pit houses, tepees, or houses made of wooden planks.

Southwest

All of the groups in this area did some farming, although some groups also followed and hunted animals. They lived in areas that were dry throughout most of the year, and thunderstorms would drench deserts in late Summer. They lived in apartment-like houses made out of adobe.

Great Plains

Much of it was dry and matted grass, so they lived mainly off of farming. Although some groups of hunting parties would follow buffalo. People lived in earth lodges, or tepees made out of animal skin.

Eastern Woodlands

People lived in clans; they mostly lived by hunting, fishing, and foraging for nuts and berries.

The land supported farming immensely. They built houses on wooden frames covered with straw mats. They plastered the houses with mud clay to keep interiors cool and dry.
