Branches of the Government

United States Government is divided into 3 parts. Each branch has certain powers. The


branches are the following: Legislative Branch,


Executive Branch, and Judicial Branch.

Legislative Branch

A branch of the United States Government whose major job is to make our country's laws.



Senate
The upper House of Congress. Each state has 2 members in the Senate.
House of Representatives

The lower House of Congress. The number of


representatives from each state is based on its population.

Congress
The National Legislature of the United States Congress has 2 Houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Capitol
The building in Washington D.C. where congress meets.
Separation of Powers
To divide the power of government among its branches.
Balancing Powers
No one government branch is given so much power that it can completely control the other branches.

A proposed law given to the legislature for


approval.
