Coplanar Vectors

If the vectors are all in the same plane, they are called coplanar vectors.

Concurrent Vectors

Vectors whose lines of action meet at one point are called concurrent vectors.

Resultant

The resultant of a system of vectors is the single vector that can replace the system of vectors and have the same effect. The resultant may be found by drawing a vector diagram and measuring the resultant (graphical method), or by calculation (analytical method).

Drawing a Vector Diagram

A vector diagram shows the vectors to scale with angles accurately drawn , as in a space diagram. However , the positions of the vectors are shifted so that the head of one vector joins the tail of the next vector to form a continuous path.

To draw a vector diagram:

a) Select a suitable scale.

b) Take the vectors In order and draw them head to tail in a continuous path. 1 i;or
