Central Pacific railroad

Authorized by Congress in 1862. It was financed by the Big Four and engineered by Theodore Judah. This railroad relied greatly on Chinese and Irish immigrant workers. The government gave them $16,000 / easy mile and $48,000 for every rough mile

Pacific railroad act

Series of government actions that promote of the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. This act authorized the issuing of government bonds and grants to railroad companies such as the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad. It gave the land on either side of the road to the Big Four this act is also it allowed them to get money for each of their miles

Southern Pacific Railroad

Southern Pacific Railroad was founded in 1865 by a group of businessmen in San Francisco. It originally was created to be a line from San Francisco to San Diego by 1833 the line extended all the way to New Orleans. The Southern Pacific Railroad merge with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1996

Theodore Judah

Civil engineer who came up with the design of the Central Pacific Railroad he's also considered one of the founders of said railroad. He was one of the people that found investors for the road he also performed in much of the land surveying when they were laying track

Union Pacific railroad

This road opened because of the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862. It is a freight hauling railroad founded on July 1st 1862 building started at the same time of the Central Pacific Railroad and they built their tracks to meet in the middle

Racially-motivated riot in LA a white man attempted to break up a fight between two gang members and was shot in the act this caused 500 white men to enter Chinatown the white man tortured any Chinese in sight. Chinese houses and businesses were ransacked. 20Chinese immigrants were hung this made this event the largest mass lynching in American history

Chinese expulsion act

This was a federal law that denied all immigration of Chinese laborers. The law was initially going to last 10 years but after being renewed it made immigration illegal permanently. This law was later repealed in 1943

Working mans party

First labor oriented political organization in the United States. It was established by Denis Kearney they created a labor newspaper in order to attract more members.they wanted the 8 hour work day, compulsory education, direct election of U.S senators, state regulation of banks and railroads and a fairer tax system and a law against taking a Craftsman tools while he's in debt

Company that produced, transported, refined, and marketed oil. It was founded by John D Rockefeller it was the world's largest oil refinery in it's time

A borax plant in death valley, it employed 40 men and had 20 mule team with double wagons borax is also known as sodium borate

Pacific electric railway company

This company was also known as the red car system. It was a privately-owned mass transportation system in Southern California. It consisted of electrical power streetcars interuben cars and buses it was created by Henry e Huntington and isaias w Hellman(banker)

The Central Pacific Railroad had an auction to sell land to the highest bidder. Farmers became angry so they sued but lost. the rail road begin to foreclose on settlers who would not pay. the road then sent hartt and Crow to fight the farmers leader James Harris. Crow fired a shotgun into harris face then gunned down the other Farmers hartt was killed by a meelee crow escaped into a wheat field but was found and killed

Los Angeles times building/Otis family

Gary Otis led a campaign against labor unions he eventually headed the most powerful anti-union Business Association in America. Otis introduced a 20% pay cut and locked his Union Printers out. When they protested he brought in scams and keep publishing anti-union an anti-reform articles in the times. Then a strike of Mexican trolley workers pushed otis to make picketing and striking illegal the union workers bombed the Times building and killed 21 Men
