27 Amendments

Before the passing of this amendment, there were no limits or restrictions as to who could sue what state and for what reason. After this bill has been passed, there are now clear rules and regulations that are illegal to break. Although, there are some things that the constitution does not mention, such as United States citizens bring suing their own state.

Before this amendment, every candidate running for president ran for president by themselves, regardless of political party. Now, members of the electoral college must vote for a president and a vice-president together. This ensures the happiness of United States citizens and the avoidance of mix-ups, such as the ones that have occurred in the past.

Before the passing of this amendment, it was legal for citizens of the United States to own African-American slaves. This amendment granted African-American's freedom from slavery and made it illegal for any United States citizen to own a negro slave. This amendment is often referred to as "the abolishment of slavery".

This amendment states that anyone born in the United States of American is considered to be a United States citizen and they are entitled to same rights and freedoms as any other United States citizen. It is illegal to deprive any United States citizen of those rights or freedoms without legal jurisdiction. Everyone is equal under the law and everyone is equally protected by it.

Before this amendment was passed, government officials could stop people, especially people of a different color or race, from voting. After the passing of this amendment, it then became illegal to do that. This now allows for all United States citizens to be treated more equally and fairly.

Before the passing of this amendment, there were no income taxes that had to be paid. After the passing of this amendment, the federal government is able to collect an income tax from every United States citizen. Income taxes go toward things like the army, building roads and bridges, enforcing laws, and other important duties.

The passing of this amendment allowed for United States citizens to vote for the senators that represent their state. Before this amendment passed, they were not allowed to and only voted for the congress members that represented them. Before the passing of this amendment, the legislature from each state voted on the United States senators.

Before the passing of this amendment it was legal to make, purchase, sell, and consume alcohol. After the passing of this amendment, it was illegal to make, drink, or sell alcoholic beverages. This is the only amendment to the United States Constitution that would later be repealed.

Before the passing of this amendment, it was illegal for women, regardless of race or citizenship, to vote in United States elections. After its passing, this amendment allowed for women who are United States citizens to vote in United States elections. However, women who are not current citizens of the United states cannot vote in United States elections.

Before the passing of this amendment, it was not specified when federal elected office terms end. After this amendment was passed, it specified when the terms would end. Out of all of the amendments to the United States Constitution, this one is probably the simplest and most straight forward.

Before the passing of this amendment, it was illegal to buy, make, or drink any form of alcohol. After the passing of this amendment, it became legal to create, sell, and consume alcoholic beverages. This amendment repeals the 18 amendment to the United States Constitution.

Before the passing of this amendment, presidents could serve as many terms as they were elected. After this amendment was passed, presidents could only serve two terms in office. This allowed for there to not be a so-called "ruler" over the United States.

Before this was passed, because Washington D.C. is not one of the 50 United States, residents of Washington D.C. could not vote in nation elections. After this amendment was passed, that changed and now residents of Washington D.C. are allowed to vote in national elections. It was important that this be passed because although Washington D.C. is not one of the 50 United States, it is still a major part of this country and its residents are still citizens of the United States.

Before this amendment was passed, states were allowed to use poll taxes on citizens as much as they chose. Afterword, it was declared that this was now illegal and that it could no longer happen anymore. One major issue with poll taxes was that states, especially southern states, would tax African Americans for many things, making it virtually impossible for any African Americans to gain political power of any sort.

This amendment was passed so that if an acting president dies or can in no way complete his or her duties, the vice-president will then assume the presidency. This was not always the case, as before this amendment was put into affect, it was unclear as to who would become the acting president in the even that a circumstance occurs in which a president can not fulfill his or her duties. It was important that the vice-president take over the presidency so that a member of another party who was not elected would not be able to do so.

Before the passing of this amendment, United States citizens had to be at the age of 21 years old to be able to vote in elections. Now, after the passing of this amendment, United States citizens only have to be 18 years of age to be able to vote. This amendment mainly came into affect because citizens believed that if 18 years old was old enough to join the army and die for your country, it was old enough to be able to elect the people starting wars.

Before the passing of this amendment, members of congress could receive their pay raises or deductions at any time during their term. After the passing of this amendment, members of congress could only receive said pay raises or deductions after the term they were currently in ended. Since the members of congress set their own salaries, many United States citizens worried that having congress members people to gain money whenever they wanted.
