How would you do a simple door test?

Release doors one side of the train for a passenger vehicle


Make sure halo lights correct on the right side on the door. Check the other side of the door and physically check the door to ensure no crossfeed.

When would you need to do a simple door test?

When a locomotive is attached and detached due to interference with the UIC cable.

What two circuit breakers can affect the interlock

FDMCB frequency divisions multiplex circuit breaker and the ASCB auxiliary switch circuit breaker

What happens if you find the ASCB tripped?

You would loose all power in that vehicle and there would be no interlock.


You must attempt to reset the ASCB 3 times only with 30 seconds intervals (in the environmental panel)


If that fails you must lock and label all doors


You need to call the driver and ask him to isolate the door interlock override valve and move the brake pipe unit control valve to assist mode.


No lights will be in that coach so passengers must be moved out of the vehicle.


Ensure that the fault has been reported to signaller and control


Put in repair book


The train will travel at reduced speed 40mph and terminate at next station. If going southbound the class 91 must be run round to the front of the train and attached to the DVT.

What happens if the FDMCB trips?

When the FDMCB trips the train will come to a stand.


Interlock will be lost on the train which means you must attempt to reset the circuit breaker 3 times.


To identify the correct carriage you must walk down the train and look for the orange light by door A. The one that is lit means that coach is affected.


You must reset the FDMCB 3 times with 30 seconds intervals.


If this fails you must isolate the dicos switch and take the padlock.


You must lock all the doors out of use and label them.


You must place the padlock on the repair book and enter the details.


Call maintence control.


If the doors are locked out in the extreme end, passengers must be moved out of the carriage and locked out.

From the outside, platform side. Turn your carriage key 90 degrees in the lock on the sliding door towards the driving cab. Ensure the key is turned back towards its originally position.


Pull the door handle towards the driving cab and slide the door open.

Wait until the train has come to a stand, turn key to local (yellow light should come on) and check that the train is accommodating the platform. Turn the key to train, And press door release by holding the passenger open button. Turn key to off.

Receive station work complete for dispatcher and acknowledge by giving one arm raised or white light. (Ensure the signal is off) Turn key to train and press close.


Look for all hazard lights to extinguish, ensure the blue interlock light has come on.

Receive train safety check complete by acknowledging dispatcher and press close using the passenger doors.

You have opened a local door at a station due to local instructions. You receive hand signal and close your local door. And recieve the red bar light however you do not have the interlock blue light and the ready to start buzzer does not work? What do you need to do?

You need to turn key to train and you will see the blue interlock light lit, you then must press the blue close button and that will activate the ready to start button.

How do you enter the train from ballast level?
