Enzymes |
Biological catalyst - a substance that speeds up reaction |
Stucture |
Made of proteins to make complex shapes |
How it works? |
The enzymes are in a particular shape to fit in a certain molecule thats known as substrate. |
Active site |
• The place in which the enzyme and the substrate meet • they work like a key and a lock mechanism |
What they do? |
The enzyme depending on its function, eitheir breaks down or join the substrates together |
Increasing the rate of enzyme |
• Increase the temperature • the higher the temperature, the faster the enzymes move • the more likely the enzymes and the substrate collide |
Denatured |
• every enzyme has a optimum temperature; the temperature in which the enzyme stop working • this is known as denatured, the temperature in which the enzyme stop working |
pH |
• each enzyme has it's own optimum pH, which depends on the environ ment in which the enzyme is working • e.g - Pepsin, has an optimum pH 2 |
