Serum bilirubin more than 2.5mg/dl |
Earliest sign of jaundice? |
Yellow discolouration of sclera (icterus) |
Causes for jaundice?imagine order wise |
Increased hemolysis ,physiological jaundice,UGT deficiency(Gilbert syndrome),criggler najer syndrome (UGT absence),dubin Johnson syndrome(bile transporter absent ),rotor syndrome ,bile duct obstruction , |
Dubin Johnson syndrome?findings? |
Bile transporter absent and hepatocyte accumulate conjugated bilirubin and liver is dark ,same findings like obstructive jaundice |
Criggler najjer syndrome?findings? |
UGT absent, increased unconjugated bilirubin in blood, kernicterus ,yellow discolouration of skin and sclera, urine is normal and stools are pale and steatorrhea |
Gilbert syndrome?findings? |
UGT deficient, usually normal and only during stress there is increased hemolysis and the symptoms appear |
Causes of bile duct obstruction?findings? |
Gall stone, cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic carcinoma, increase in conjugated bilirubin and bike salt and bolile acid in blood ,urine is dark ,steatorrhea and pale stools and increased cholestrol and xanthoma and itching due to deposition of bile salt in skin |
Rotor syndrome ?findings? |
Same like dubin Johnson syndrome but liver is not dark ,findings are same like dubin Johnson syndrome |
Findings of jaundice in viral hepatitis? |
Inflammation of hepatocyte and small biliary ductules ..so both conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin increases in blood and steatorrhea, pale stools and urine not dark and kernicterus ,yellow discolouration |
