What are the specs of the 5 generators?

Air-cooled, brushless and are rated to 40kVA with output voltage of 115/200V AC 3 phase 400Hz

How are the generators cooled?

A mixture of internal fans and ram air sourced from the oil cooler scoop.

What is the main bus the APU powers?

Essential AC Bus

How do you power the Main AC bus from the APU?

Depress the AC BUS TIE switch

Where are the GCUs and TRUs located?

Aft under-deck equipment rack

What is the role of the GCU?

Regulate AC power to the buses and provide automatic control and protection for the generators

What are the 5 things the GCU protects the generator from and what are the limits?

Over-voltage - greater than 130V

Under-voltage - less than 95V

Differential fault - a differential current flow of 35A

Over-frequency - greater than 435Hz

Under-frequency - less than 370Hz. Reset is automatic

What are the indicators a generator has failed?

GEN OUT light on CAWS

GEN OUT light above generator switch

MASTER CAUTION annunciator

Bus off light

Fluctuation/out of limits voltage and/or frequency

What are the specs of the AC inverter?

115V 1-phase 400Hz rated at 2500VA

What happens if the ACI and EFC bus is being powered by the LH DC and the inverter fails?

It will automatically switch to the essential AC busand SEL PWR OUT will illuminate.

How many CBs are there for the Essential AC Bus and where are they located?

18 total:

9 CBs fwd face of 245 Bulkhead by the bunk

9 CBs Pilot's side CB panel

What is the gen disconnect powered by?

28V LH DC

How does the Gen Disconnect work?

There is a spring loaded steel plunger retained by a weak fusible link. When the gen disconnect switch is turned on, a 28V DC current melts the fusible link and allows the plunger to drop into the path of the rotating flange on the drive coupling. This will cause the drive coupling to shear at the two weak points and disconnect the generator from the engine.

How many busses can be powered by the APU generator in total?

10

What are the TRUs rated to and how are they cooled?

Rated to 350A and are cooled by internal fans

What is the DC loadmeter limit?

0 - 1.03

DC3

What are the AC loadmeter limits?

0 - 1.05

0 - 0.625 on the ground

What are the specs of the aircraft battery?

24V lead acid, 43 amp hour and is negatively earthed

What 8 items are powered by the battery bus?

Fire extinguisher circuit

AC external power switch solenoid

Alarm bells

Jump lights

Isolated DC bus on battery light

Voltmeter DC

Emergency depressurization

Emergency exit lights extinguish button

FAAJIVEE

What buses are powered with only one gen running?

Essential and Main AC buses

What happens when a TRU overheats and how is it reset?

If it overheats, the TRU O/H indicator light will come on, opening the control relay and removing AC power from the TRU. The light will go out and the TRU will automatically reset when it is no longer overheating

When will the DC BUS TIE FAIL illuminate?

When the current flow between the RH and LH DC bus exceeds 350A in either direction.

Max airspeed with landing lights out?

165KIAS

Where are the nose wheel well light switches located?

One in the nose wheel well

One by the crew door on the crew door warning panel

When should you turn off the windshield anti-ice?

- OAT is above 27°C

- Panels feel excessively hot

- Electrical arcing is observed on one of the panels

- One of the panels containing a thermistor is not heating

What does the TRU TO BUS OPEN indicator/switch do?

When an incorrect current flow is sensed (+350A or -15A) the output to the bus is grounded and the light illuminates. Pressing the switch resets the TRU to its bus when an excessive or reverse current no longer exists

What are the frequency meter limits?

380 - 420 Hz

What are the voltmeter limits for the AC Generators and inverters?

110 - 125V

What light turns on when powering the PAVS or CAVS bus from alternate power?

P AVS BUS ALT PWR or C AVS BUS ALT PWR

What buses power the pitot tube anti-icing?

Pilot's side - LH DC

Co-pilot's side - ISOL DC
