나뭇가지

It is warm in the spring. There are buds on the trees

(lit on the tree buds are sprouting)

봄은 날씨가 따뜻해요. 나무에서 새싹이 돋아나

1: is it also OK to say 봄에는?

2:Have a look at this, I personally would have wrote 나무에는 instead of 에서는. I think its because something is happening so the 에서 is just being used like normal, but instead of a room or place where something takes place, it's happening on the tree. Since, even though one can't see the bud sprouting (because it happens so slowly) the bud is continuously sprouting.

? Does the 지 imply an obvious statement?

Butterfly

나비

My favourite season is summer

내가 가장 좋아하는 계절 여름이에요

this time is used because the word has been brought up a second time.

Pile, heap, stack

더미

Fallen leaf

낙엽

The weather is Cool in the fall. I like to play in the piles of fallen leaves in autumn

가을 날씨 서늘해요. 나는 가을 낙엽 더미에서 노는 것을 좋아해요

1: 더미에서 yet in the beach sentence it was 해변에서는 (find out why-is it I like to do something vs I do something ) Dictionary form of play is 놀다 and in a sentence we write 놀아요. Since we are modifying 놀다 and ㄹ has no friends we just say 노는 것을 좋아해요

Cloud

구름

Branch, twig

나뭇가지

발음:

나무까지, 나묻까지

Cloud

구름

A pile of fallen leaves

낙엽 더미

바름: 나겹

Watermelon

수박

Be hung, be attached, be connected

달리다

Icicle

고드름

It's extremely cold in the winter. There are icicles hanging off the tree branches (lit: there is an Icicle attached to the branch)

겨울은 무척 추워요. 가지에는 고드름이 달리요.

달리다: be hung, be attached, be connected

1: 나무에는 ✅ (same as if you were saying someone was in a room-they weren't doing anything in the room. If they were doing something it would be 에서 - the same as 나뭇가지에서는 새싹이 돋아나지요)

2: can't find an exact match in using Korean but according to page 71 지 is a sentence ending softener. (I wonder also if its another way of saying, ing?

2b: could also be 활용형: conjugated form, inflectional form)

2c could be an intransitive Verb (page 191 using Korean examples)

What is your favourite season?

네가 가장 좋아하는 계절은 뭐니?

계절 (because asker assumes listener to know the answer) also the subject has already been introduced... Maybe

My favourite season is summer

내가 가장 좋아하는 계절 여름이에요

this time is used because the word has been brought up a second time

Snow

It is hot in the summer. I collect shells at the shore.

여름 날씨 더워요. 나는 해변에서 조개껍데기를 모아요.

모아요 - 모으다 (사전) find out what the 는 represents here...

Sun

태양

Because I can go swimming (you know)

(lit: because I can go in order to swim, don't you know

왜냐하면 수영을 하러 갈 수 있잖아요

-잖아(요) 'you know' (it's a negative that has a positive meaning)

Originally a contracted form of - 지 않아, - 잖아 is used to seek conformation or agreement, not to negate. (it is pronounced with a falling or level contour.)

전화 오잖아. The phone is ringing, you know.

전화 왔잖아. There was a phone call, you know.

The - 잖아(요) form is very assertive and can be used (with an exasperated tone) when one is highly annoyed) :

참 견하지 말라 그랬잖아.

I told you to mind your own business

먹기 싫은데 왜 자꾸 먹으래? 싫다잖아.

Why do you keep bugging me to eat when I don't want to? I told you I don't want to.

(from a Korean narator)

There are four seasons in Korea: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Every season the blossoming flowers are different and the weather is different.

우리나라에는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울 사계절이 있어요. 계절마다 피는 꽃도 다르고 날씨도 달라요
