שניים שמאליים מה-thoracic aorta. אחד ימני מה-posterior third intercostal artery או מה-left bronchial artery. מספקים דם ל-bronchi, ל-pulmonary areolar tissue, בלוטות לימפה ברכיופלמונריות, פריקרדיום ואסופגוס.

העורקים האינטרקוסטליים האנטריוריים מתפצלים מה-internal thoracic artery שמתפצל מה-subclavian artery. הוא מסתעף ל-6 זוגות המספקים דם ל-7 צלעות ראשונות, פקטורל, שרירים אינטרקוסטלים, עור, שדיים. עוברים בין ה-innermost וה-internal intercostal muscles. אנסטומטזה עם הענפים הפוסטריורים. ה-thoracic artery אז מתפצל ל-musculophenic artery שמספק דם לחלק הנמוך של הפריקרדיום ושרירים אבדומינליים ולצלעות 10-11. במרווחים 10&11 אין Anterior intercostal arteries והם מקבלים דם מה-posterior intercostal arteries. |

The highest intercostal artery (supreme intercostal artery or superior intercostal artery) is an artery that gives rise to the first and second posterior intercostal arteries, which supply blood to their corresponding intercostal space. |

Posterior intercostal arteries |
מקורם במרווחים הבין צלעיים האחוריים. 8 זוגות (3-11) ומתפצלים מה-descending aorta. נמצאים בין ה-internal וה-innermost. מבצעים אנסטומוזה עם הענפים הקדמיים. מתפצלים ל-4 ענפים: ענף דורסלי (11 צלעות, חוליות, חוט שדרה, meninges, erector spine muscle, חלק מהלטסימוס דורסי והטרפזיוס, העור מעל), ענף קולטרלי (אנסטומטזה עם הענפים הקדמיים), ענף מסקולרי (האינטרקוסטליים, פקטורל, סרטוס אנטריור, רקמת שד ועור), ענף lateral cutaneous (העור של ה-laterer trunk). |
