My Writing Style Analysis

After having Miss Kelley as my English teacher both freshman and sophomore year, I was rather nervous having a new teacher my junior year. I had become accustomed to Miss Kelley’s grading style and writing style. It would be fair to say that my writing style had transformed into the way it was due to her influence. My worries had soon dissipated when I realized that Mrs. Wecht’s writing style, although different than that of Miss Kelley’s, was not a terribly hard transition. I would like to think that overall I am a good writer. However, there is always room for improvement. At the beginning of the year, with my The Outliers essay, I demonstrated a performance that is average when compared to my current capabilities. The essay contained …show more content…
Once again, my grade on the paper had improved. The assignment was an example of a PARCC assessment, and I received a three out of four. Once again, I displayed a proficient ability to embed a quote properly. My thesis had improved from the previous ones, but it could still be improved upon. I have always believed that I was never very good at writing conclusions. I now recognize that my conclusion in this particular essay could have been better. Finally, the big one - my research paper. For months, I researched and wrote for this paper and I received a grade of eighty-five. I was very proud of myself. However, nothing is perfect. Although I quoted and paraphrased the source materials, my synthesization of the sources was somewhat awkward. I also had a problem of using too many citations. Whereas at the time of writing this research paper I almost cited every sentence, I am now aware that my job is to read all the research and then come up with my own version of the ideas. I also made the mistake of using only one source for each paragraph. To truly find factual information, a variety of sources are needed. On the plus side, my information was overall very good and easy to follow. My thesis was well-written and my claims backed up the information. My writing has improved since the beginning of the year. My overall strengths would be writing style, grammar, and theses. My overall weaknesses would be embedding of quotes, transitions, and

No matter how many times I’ll have to write one, reflections are always difficult. They make you look at yourself and your work and dissect every good and bad aspect of it. Sometimes it’s hard because just the task of analyzing one’s own work can be tricky, but my personal biggest issue is learning how to fix what I find specifically wrong. Part of this is due to my own writing style, along with the bad habits that come with it. However, throughout this class, I have learned more about how to relay my ideas more concisely to my audience and in a more summarized form.…

Well, I consider myself to be a decent writer, even though writing is not my strong point. Therefore, as I have come to the completion of my degree, I have learned numerous writing skills along the way. I learned the MLA style, when I started taking my basics in college and the APA style for my upper division courses. At times I get confused on the formats as I consider them to be similar in some ways. Furthermore, they differ and each has its own different style of quoting and citation in articles, books, phrases, etc.…

I do write every once in a while, so I have somewhat of an idea of what my writing style would be. Varied; that is my writing style. When I write I try to explain myself as clearly as possible with my ideas. However, when I write about questions I have and things I wonder about I tend to write in a mysterious tone. When my friends ask for a letter of advice or thoughts on certain issues they are having I get deep and dramatic.…

Personally, my weakness would always be forming the structure and have the same style of writing. With the cycles from EliReview, it allowed me to explore other student’s writings, which makes me realize other styles I can incorporate into my writing. In addition, I noticed my structure of writing improved exponentially due to the fact the cycle required the second draft in the same week, forcing me to edit my draft, which results in improvement of my writing structure. I did not include an essay for the portfolium project, but if I was to include one it would definitely be the Review Annotated Bibliography 2 as it was my second time writing a similar assignment, which would make it my strongest essay. This is not only my strongest essay,…

William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White recognize many people consider writing difficult, especially when not everyone is practicing it daily. During the introduction of The Elements of Style White claims that often writers struggle to clearly present their ideas, what should be clear and easy to say presents scrambled and frail on paper. For this reason, it is White’s goal to help all aspiring writers to develop their own satisfactory writing style. The text is separated into basic grammar rules, how to structure your writing, misused words and expressions, and an approach to style. All four of these sections are written clear and concise and are easily put into practice in daily life.…

When it comes to writing; I have never really had a preferred method or process. For the most part I usually just try to force ideas out onto paper in a somewhat organized manner. I have always had a serious problem with procrastination and staying on subject, so if I do not find myself interested in what I am learning I always seem to zone out. Even when it comes to subjects I enjoy writing has never captivated my interest, and when I do manage to write something it is always terribly disorganized and hardly makes any sense. As of this year I have been working at paying closer attention in class and working on my writing skills as a whole.…

Composing Process Essay Writing is an important process that shapes the student’s thinking process. The majority of papers that I am writing in my undergraduate course at the University of South Alabama required good brainstorming for selecting the topic and also for writing the essays. The essays which were done till now were completed in the same manner, by taking notes from the source texts that I read and re-reading them while conducting my research. Surprisingly, there has not been a change in my composing process till now.…

Throughout the time that I have spent in the educational system I have used various writing styles in my literature. These different styles have helped me to find out the type of person I am. When I first started writing, I would write in a style of just writing down words to form a story that had no true meaning. I maintained this form of writing until one of my middle school teachers had a talk with me about my form of writing. They spoke to me on how my style of writing wouldn’t help me moving forward, because other teachers and future professors wouldn’t accept the type of work I was making.…

I learned a lot more than what I thought I would from this course. As I look back on my first assignments, I know I couldn't have absorbed everything that was being taught, but I realize now that I have developed an important skill set. I have also learned how to be more clear and concise as an effective writer. These writing principles that we discussed throughout this course helped me to be more critical of my work, evaluating based on the clarity of the presented material and how it is received by the desired audience. This has been the most appreciated course I have taken because it has provided me with the concrete information that can be applied to other academic areas.…

Throughout the class, I would ideally like to focus on writing short stories, specifically focusing on fantasy. Personally, fantasy is one of my favorite genres to read, as I feel that an author has more artistic liberty with their story. Fantasy challenges the mind, making people consider the impossible and unbelievably if only for the course of the story. That’s what I love about it--it inspires people seek out the fantastical in everyday life. In the future, I want to be an author and illustrator focusing on these same themes, and so I feel that focusing myself on writing stories now will only benefit me later in pursuing my profession.…
