The war I decided to do research on is World War 2. This World War was very important period in the 20th century because new technology, weapons, women’s rights, and programs to explore outer space were all developed because of the war. Many historians have different opinions of when WW2 started because right after WW1 the battles continued on between nations. The years between the first and second World Wars were a time of instability because throughout the world there was a Great Depression that began around 1930. During this time nations like Germany, Italy and Japan developed intense nationalist feelings that led them to a desire to expand. In Europe Germany wanted to expand in Northern and Eastern Europe. The Germans were attacking the capital with their unique battle strategies but they were not successful. When Soviet army counter attacked the Germans, Hitler knew he was going to lose many troops and even the war. Since the Germans were attacking the USSR with its strongest force and the Soviets were able to hold them off, they had nothing to defend themselves. With the Germans losing a strong point and basically France during D’Day this marked a big loss for the Axis forces. For example women were accepted in more positions in the workforce. Because of the war the US was able to get out of the depression. New technologies also arose because of the war such as radar, jets, and rockets, which leaded to the exploration of outer space. Even though the war has its negatives such as the deaths of the atomic bombs, the inhumane actions of the holocaust, and Hitler taking invading different countries with the help of the German nation. In my opinion nobody ever wins a war, both side losses millions of people. The aftermath of WW2 is somewhat related to the fate of the Trojan women. The German soldiers that got killed in war and executed from trials left loved ones. Their loved ones could have been their wives, daughters, and mothers. To make it even worse, most of the German prisoners were forced into labor for the Allied forces. This meant even though the war was over families were still split apart. When Talthybius tells Andromache that Odysseus wants to kill Astyanax, son of Hector, Andromache breaks her heart knowing that her son and only hope of the Greeks rests in her son. I feel like this how mothers of the Nazis reacted when Nazis were trialed and executed by the Allied force.
