The daily life of women in the 1800’s was basically to be there to help reproduce children. The women were completely controlled by men their whole lives. First it was their fathers’ then brothers’ and then finally their husbands’. They had no say whatsoever when it came to decision making. The husbands basically had 100% control over the women, including her body and inheritance. If he wanted her to go out and reproduce with another man, she would have to or she would be faced with a punishment for not following orders. When it came down to wedding vows, the man wrote out the wife’s’ vows for her and made her repeat it word for word. Not everyone is going to be the exactly same as one another. For example, the native American women did a majority of the work whereas women in the 1800’s were not allowed to do anything that would compromise the mans’ masculinity. All in all, everyone in the end ended up having the rights that they deserve, even though it took a century. We are still getting used to having women in the House of Representatives and having our first African American president 8 years ago.
