“No matter how effective your strategy, your vision, or your communication, you will fail to achieve the desired results your organization if you cannot inspire trust…”-Bill George. This quote says that even if you have many effective leadership qualities, that doesn’t make you a leader. Being a leader requires trust from the people and trust for the people. In the book, Lord of the Flies, there are three people that posses qualities that would make them a good leader. The three people that show desirable leadership qualities are Ralph, Piggy, and Jack. “You 're hindering Ralph. You 're not letting him get to the most important thing.” This quote reveals how Piggy is able to see what needs to be done. He follows the rules and is exceedingly smart. “I got the conch! Just you listen! The first thing we ought to have made was shelters down there by the beach. It wasn 't half cold down there in the night. But the first time Ralph says 'fire ' you goes howling and screaming up this here mountain. Like a pack of kids!”- Before he scolded the other kids for not listening and now he steps in to set things in order so things can get done. Piggy takes charge and orders the little kids to listen so that they don’t behave like “a pack of kids”. “You didn 't ought to have let that fire out. You said you 'd keep the smoke going—” Unlike before when he scolded the little kids, now he confronts Jack about what Jack did wrong. Piggy backed up his argument with some of Jack’s previous words. Piggy is smart and he uses this to his advantage to keep Jack in his place. Piggy’s tone also helps get the younger kids against Jack and if the younger kids isolate Jack then Jack might see it as a punishment for letting the fire go out. Jack realizes what he did wrong. For example, in the story Ralph jumps into action quickly. After gaining consciousness, he begins to call everyone together and he orders Piggy to collect everyone’s name. Even though everyone is frazzled and scared Ralph stays calm and begins to take on his role as leader. Economy says “They understand that in certain situations, difficult and timely decisions must be made in the best interests of the entire organization” (Economy). Ralph does this by making decisions when he is faced with a difficult situation. He brings everyone together and begins to do what he thinks would be most helpful for everyone. Just like Economy’s thought that leadership is being able to make wise decisions in difficult situations, in her article “23 Traits of Good Leaders“ Farrell explains that leaders are able to focus on where they are going and they are able to persuade people to follow them. Ralph does this when he makes a fire so that they have a chance at getting rescued. Ralph explained to the other kids that the only way they would get off the island is if someone came and rescued them. He told them that the fire would serve as a signal to any passing ships or planes. Farrell says “Focus. Know where you 're going and have a strong stated mission to lead people on” (Farrell). Ralph does this by telling them that the fire’s smoke

One of my favorite quotes is “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is”. As the boys come onto my island, some of them decide to hold back or change themselves to gain a following. This applies to two boys in particular. Piggy, who believes that if he hides his intelligence he will be able to shield himself from shrewdness from the other boys. Also Jack who is under the impression that if he becomes aggressive and an “alfa” figure on the island he will gain a following from the other boys, eventually resulting in him being chief.…

The two writings, On the State of Nature by Thomas Hobbes, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding are two very intellectual ways of thinking. The two writings have some different viewpoints and understandings. Although there are some differences between both writings, the basis of their writings are focused around the idea that politics, and laws are formed from a social contract. Social contracts are a form of government when no government is officially appointed, leaving the decision of who should be in power up to the people. Thomas Hobbes stated, “Hereby it is manifest, that during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called war; and…
