Gary Miller in his article “Higher Education Benefits Students, Society” informs the reader of the various obstacles and benefits college students face when they are pursuing a college education. Miller goes on to explain that today, higher education is valued more as a means of personal financial advancements than for its societal good. Although, college graduates will pay more taxes throughout their lifetime, they will enjoy better health, less likely to be involved in criminal activity, and more likely to volunteer in their community. Miller also demonstrates how a college education is a win for everyone. With a college degree people are more likely to get a well-paid job, and the community 's economy will prosper as well. Not investing in higher education means not investing in innovation, discovery, workforce preparation, and the growth of intellectual capital.
