Why I Choose Soccer

As long as I can remember, I’ve been a fan of soccer. Growing up in Europe, soccer was a very popular sport and was played by every child in its early years. I was born In Switzerland, being active and taking part in sports has always been a necessity in growing up as it is with almost every kid growing up. The reason to which I decided to pick soccer rather than other sports was mainly due to the reason that I am more of a team player rather than playing alone. It is understandable that making a mistake while playing with a team can be different than making a mistake in a solo sport as the pressure is on you if that mistake costs the team the game. On the other hand, if it’s an individual sport such as tennis, the blame can only be on yourself …show more content…
I had decent knowledge of soccer at that time as I had been playing with my friends for a while but I did not get the proper practice. So I joined the team as a defender, the spot where the coach put me in since I did not know where I wanted to be at that time. Playing competitively was a big change from playing casually in a friend’s back yard. It put me under more pressure and taught me to notice the weaknesses and strengths of other players in order to play with or against it and get the upper hand. Usually this is not a smart move to do as it reduces our defense. The whistle blew again and the corner kick was headed towards the middle of the box, nowhere close to where I was. A defender headed it out hoping to reduce the threat but instead it landed right onto my chest to which I controlled the ball, pushed it in front of me and took a hard kick without really thinking where it would land. The ball decided to follow my motion and flew right into the top right corner of the goal giving no chance for the goalie to even react. My whole team came in rushing towards me congratulating me on my first goal ever with the team. The game ended with a one to nothing win for us and a memorable moment for
