These dictators include, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Fidel Castro, Mao Zedong and the worst of them all, Joseph Stalin. Many people think that this is not true. Some people will call Adolf Hitler the worst and most ruthless leader of all time because he killed so many Jewish people and anyone he did not like. This is true, however people do not think of what happened after the war. Yes, Hitler did have the biggest genocide ever, but people often forget that Hitler was not active in the years following World War II. Russia was the first person to put a man into orbit. They tried to use this as a way to put satellites into space and spy on America (Nazaryan para. 15 2017). Stalin was ahead of the United States at this point in the Cold War. Along with Stalin killing tens of millions of his own people, he was also a person that wanted to be ahead of everyone. He wanted to make sure that there was no one else that was ahead of Russia in technology and military. Joseph Stalin was born into a peasant estate on December 18, 1878 to Vissarion and Ekaterina Stalin in Gori, Georgia. Little is known about Stalin’s father Vissarion, other than he became employed at a shoe factory when Stalin was about the age of ten; because he left his family when Stalin was still a child, Stalin had “very little to do with him” (Kuromiya 2) from that point forward. On the other hand, Ekaterina, Stalin’s mother was involved in her son’s life, trying to find lowly jobs, such as sewing, in order to support her poverty-stricken family. Kuromiya emphasizes not only Stalin’s economic struggles with living in poverty but also the minor physical deformities Stalin suffered with as a child, including blemishes from smallpox, a deformed…

Over the 30 years of Joseph Stalin’s dictatorship, the estimated death toll ranged from 28 to 40 million people, whom died from a variety of things, such as famine, executions, and a very large war. Stalin assumed autocratic rule of the Soviet Union in 1924 following the death of Lenin. Stalin made a variety of reforms, but his main focus was on the economic issues that was occurring in the communist country at the time. Stalin made his economic reforms solely to make the most amount of money possibly, even if millions of people had to die. I completely contest to Stalin’s beliefs and ideas during this very controversial time in the USSR.…

Stalin’s role in exasperating the famine in Ukraine beginning in 1931 is far more complex than simple aggression. What dictated much of Stalin’s actions was that he could not permit his own policies in Ukraine, such as collectivization, to be of blame for the famine. He thus placed it at the feet of Ukrainian Communist party (Snyder, p. 35).…

The atrocities of the WWII era were caused by Joseph Stalin using police and military terror in the USSR to get rid of anyone he considered his enemy by locking them away in the Gulags, he used control of individuals by forcing farmers to combine their farms into mega farms, and Adolf Hitler used ideology to “purify” Germany of lesser races. In the USSR Joseph Stalin used police and military terror to confine peasants in concentration camps known as Gulags where millions died of starvation and exhaustion. Totalitarian leaders used terror and violence to defeat anyone they considered their enemies. The leader’s goal was to protect the interest of his government rather than those of his people.…
