Register to read the introduction… I know that for me to begin my journey to get where I want to be in life I have to apply myself to my studies. By studying hard for exams and completing my assignments I am ensuring myself that I will finish college with the best grades that I can get, and this will lead me to being accepted to my chosen University. For me to commit myself to travelling someplace new every year I have to force myself to save the money that I make, and that can be quite difficult when you have responsibilities to deal with. My senior year could have not started any better. On July 30th, 2015 I get a call from Coach Brock Hayes from Louisiana College offering me a scholarship to play at the college level. Throughout my boundary project journey, I will be focusing on how I can stand up for myself and express my needs to others without feeling guilty or be afraid of losing love. I want to be able to work on my boundary issue of compliance by using the word, “no” whenever it is needed, rather than always giving in. In my first week of the boundary project, I learned a lot about my child’s fears and how my adult could more effectively talk my child off the ledge, rather than completely pushing the child off through ineffective methods. During this week, I had one moment where I ran into my boundary issue.…

My Ethnography My own personal theme is about resilience. Throughout my life I have shown evidence of resilience by overcoming challenges such as being on poverty and not being able to pay bills for a while, sometimes needing to borrow money from others. To overcome the obstacles I gave my family hope inspiration because of how hard I was working in school so I made them think that if I can get decent grades in school and still have lots of free time to do my chores, rest and do things that I like. I have seen lots of people in poverty in my neighborhood because they aren’t always able to get new clothes or shoes when they need it the most.…

Growing up gay in machismo community had its difficulties. Not meeting the status quo can make you feel horribly excommunicated. Often times I would feel as if it was expected that I partake in "manly" activities that just made me feel uncomfortable. Cat-calling and football just weren 't for me. Because of this, I typically felt like I was a failure as a man.…

Angie Margai-Renner September 6th, 2015 Ms. Winn English 2 Angie’s Personal Narrative I’ve always considered myself as a cracked egg because once an egg is cracked it’s impossible for it to be pieced back together. I came out of my shell during the end of my 5th grade year towards my 6th grade year. First and foremost before we get that far this is how it all began. I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone; a really small country located in West Africa.. I lived there until I was 8 during one sunny afternoon when you could hear the weary cows, stray dogs scream the sound of uneasiness and footsteps approaching into the compound carrying what at the time was bad news.…

One of my most distinctive long-term goals that I had was to qualify for our varsity swim and dive team as well as to participate in the state meet as a freshman. Being a nationally accredited team, I understood that if I wanted to achieve my goal, I would have to devote a large amount of my time and effort into my practice schedule. This resulted in multiple practice times, an increased workout schedule and participation in outside service involving the swim and dive team. After school, I would head out to University of Louisville’s natatorium and spend the majority of the day conditioning, warming up dives I have acquired from past practices, and attempt dives that were foreign to me.…

Remember the last time you were at a casino and you heard all that yelling at the craps table and wondered “what are they yelling about”, but you never ventured over there because you are too intimidated by craps. You’re not the only one. I used to watch from a distance trying to figure out what was going on, people were throwing chips everywhere yelling all sorts of crazy jargon (“press”, “same bet”, “hard 8”, “odds”) all while the dealers are moving chips all over the place paying people and taking other people’s money. What a crazy and intimidating game.…

At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

Everyone’s journey in life is different so to speak; we each pick different paths based on decisions that we make. When I reflect and think about myself I realized that I have come a long way in my short 22 years of life for someone whose life has not changed extremely drastically in any sense. For the very first half of my life, everything was very steady. That was until I went into high school where my life changed in many different ways because I decided to go through different paths that I would never have expected to turn on to. Through self-reflection now I am almost glad that they occurred despite the difficulties that came along with it.…

Throughout life, we learn different lessons be it from a teacher such as your parents, guardians, spouse, etc. or just going out and living and collecting experiences. From these, we grow and become the person we are today. We learn to shape us into the person we are and motivate the things we do and believe.
