Sure, the idea of meeting someone through a dating app can seem suspicious because we were warned so much as young teenagers about creeps on myspace or facebook. However, we have grown up. The world has changed and developed. There is no reason for us not to use these technological advancements to our advantage. Meeting new people can be difficult, and as a generation that has developed along side technology and social media, there should be no shame in using these devices to engage in social communication. Tinder, in a way, is the equivalent of a “welcome to school” mixer, the only difference is that everything is done through technology. It has mastered social navigation by allowing condensed people in a small area to meet people in the same geographic and age demographic. College students can be very critical of their peers for using Tinder, a criticism that is often hypocritical . Assuming things about a person’s character based on if they have one particular app on their phone, and assuming the app has one purpose often times has very ill foundation. Tinder is not all about getting laid and by the time the generation under us develops, these apps will be a very social norm.
