Section one statement nine “Human services professionals recognize and built on a client’s strengths” (McClam & Woodside, 2015, p.288). I choose this one because punishing a child excessively is not a strength its defiantly a weakness and it’s against the law.
The code of ethics says you must build on strengths. If he continues to see the client and does not report the abuse that would not be strength building it would be enforcing illegal behavior. Section one standard twenty-seven “Human service professionals seek appropriate consultation and supervision to assist in decision-making when there are legal, ethical or other dilemmas” (“National organization for human services”,2015). We will also deal with situations where we must emotionally hurt another person for the good of someone else, for example, taking a client’s children away or placing your client in a hospital. The code of ethics is a set of rules/standards to help guide us with these issues. It can also be used as a guide when working with our colleagues as well as a guide when working with outside sources. Without the code of ethics, it would be anarchy in the human services world. you could basically do anything you wanted besides break state and federal laws. There are standards set to protect you and the client. Without these, the options of bad things that could happen would be endless. If there were no code of ethics, there would be no trust between you and the clients. It would be hard for your employer or colleagues to trust you. With the code they have an idea of what is guiding you without it, well it could be anything. In a field with so many uncertainties already, it’s good to know there is one consistent
