The report is commissioned by Hemant & Co. to Jim Johnson- General manager of the West Indies Yacht Club. The purpose of this report is to sort out the problems of West Indies Yacht Club and provides the solutions to improving the situations. The report is going to identify the main points, recommendations and limitations.
Scope
There are couples of hotels in BVI (British Virgin Islands) and WIYCR is one of them is famous for its accessibility to sea. The resort staff is composed with expatriate managers and local employees. As we need to consider the implementation of overall change in WIYCR is culture in the short term and in the long term separately. As in the short-term, resort has to focus on teamwork and trust building. In the long-term, main focus is on improving communication with each other’s, relationship between the resorts and headquarter to improve overall efficiency. However, the reward system is not working with the locals, they are moreover the collectivism then individualism. Local staff enjoys the relationship with their co-workers, friends and family and does not want the extra rewards for more works and responsibility. As many expatriates do not have the any kind of experience working outside the America, so they find difficult to work with local employee. Since the local culture is totally different than expatriate and understanding of local culture is limited among expatriate managers. The manager styles they employ are often ineffective, because they use the American style which are not understood by the locals. As a result of the cultural gap, the expatriate manager feels discourage since they cannot motivate the locals to work properly and lose their enthusiasm to work in a resort within a short period of
