Introduction and Advantages of Amazon Web Services
Amazon Web Services has served a varied number of since its launch in 2006. In the decade following, over 150,000 developers have joined Amazon Web Services and have constructed tens of thousands of applications for their organizations, institutions or companies on a number of different scales. These include massive organizations and small businesses alike. ().
In 2009, Amazon Web Services announced the debut of free and flexible cloud storage to educators, academic researchers and students. This allowed open access to programs that had previously demanded high cost infrastructure, like massive storage and high-speed processors, in education industries that could not afford to build them on their own. Amazon Web Services help Netflix step further to its corporate vision. She even credits AWS with helping Amazon “becoming the best global entertainment distribution service and entertainment content around the world” (Amazon, 2016). Without AWS, the market available to the most innovative and successful creators would not have the options they have with Netflix. AWS has enabled Netflix to amass an unthinkable amount of success because of the computing power it provides. The numbers are staggering; in 2015 there were 42.5 billion hours streamed to over 83 million subscribers in over 130 countries (Dreier, 2016).
