You can see the ambition Alexie has and how hard he tries to break the low expectations along with the stereotypes. Another example is when He states, “A smart Indian is a dangerous person, widely feared and ridiculed by Indians and non-Indians alike”(293). Here you can also understand how the children are afraid to show smartness in front of non-Indians. Ethos happen when he states “ I am smart. I am arrogant, I am lucky”( 293) because Alexie expresses strong motivation in lifting himself up from low standards. Another one would be when he says, “I cannot recall a single time that a guest teacher visited the reservation…[so now,]... I visit schools and teach creative writing to Indian kids”(416). The author shows how Alexie provides opportunities he never had when he was young. By proving creative writing he is leading the kids into a better future where they can “...[save] their lives”(416). These ethos just lead into how successful Alexie became by his own motivation and now that he has reach his goal of success he wants to help others and motivated them into also being successful in any life without non-Indian expectations. Logo is when he says “ I began to think of everything in terms of paragraphs” (293). Here you can tell that he took the knowledge he had received from reading into parts of his everyday life.
