Violence has always been a major issue in public schools and is a very serious concern in today’s society. Studies show that more than 50 percent of public schools contain violence each day. Have we ever taken a minute to think about how the parents of the victims feel? Do the person that caused the violence thought about the consequences before they took action? Violence in public schools to affect everyone around us. After thinking about these questions; what steps should be taken to prevent violence in public schools? Some possible answers could be more law enforcement, organized social groups, and a climate of respect. Each one of these could possibly make a positive difference in our community. On April 16, 2007 a senior at Virginia tech by the name of Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people, 17 people were injured by escaping classroom windows approximately two hours apart and later he decided to commit suicide. This tragedy sparked an intense debate about gun violence, gun laws, gaps between the U.S. system for treating mental health issues, the perpetrator 's state of mind, and the responsibility of college administrations. Yes we are going to have some down falls but it’s nothing we can not face and get through with the help of prayer and each other. I have learned a lot of what has been going on in the United States from doing this research paper, some things that I didn’t even know and it gave me a better understanding of what the community thought about certain situations and how they viewed different topics. So I hope that one day we can use these steps to help prevent violence in public
