One of the leading causes of IPV is a person’s upbringing. The family environment that a person grows up in will determine how they act in their future lives. A child that grows up witnessing violence in their home is more likely to grow with the mentality that it is normal, and they are more likely to engage in IPV in their relationships. Low self-esteem also leads to IPV as discussed in the literature review as people that have a low self-esteem tend to find ways to bring others down and make them feel that they are worthless. Violence is usually a way they use to do this, and they do not let their partners experience happiness. Depression is said to be a disease of the mind, and some of the people suffering from it use violence as a means to relieve themselves. They feel better after engaging in IPV and do not understand the effects that the act has on their partners. Death, physical trauma, and low self-esteem are some of the effects that are associated with IPV as revealed in the literature review. Death happens when the person doing the act uses force to beat the other person making them fall on hard surfaces that hurt them severely. It may also be caused by a person being inflicted injuring using sharp objects such as knives. The person may bleed severely as a result of this, leading to their death. Depression is also said to cause IPV and those that suffer from it feel better after engaging in it without understanding the effects that the act has on their partners. Some of the effects of IPV are death, physical trauma, and low self-esteem. Emotional tortures through words that are said to a person as well as rape are also ways that IPV is done. Despite the effects associated with IPV, most women find it hard to leave their relationships as they cannot imagine their lives without them. Some of them love their partners too much and believe that it is their fault that the partners are violent. As a result, they let themselves be abused. Others hope that the partners will change their behaviors while others are afraid to leave because the society expects them to stay.
