Authentic Value-Based Leadership Essay

Another trait that I have found to be an essential part of effective leadership is authentic value-based leadership. In this sense, a leader is well aware of his or her values and strives to live out those values on a daily basis. No one can be authentic by trying to imitate someone else. Sure you can learn from other’s experiences, but in order to be an effective leader, you must be rooted in who you are and what matters most to you. (George 163). When you truly know yourself and what you stand for, it is much easier to know what to do in any situation. It is essential for leaders to be unshakable from their core values and, hold strong convictions. This is the basis of authentic, value-based leadership.

Values are the principles or standards of behavior that one deems worthy or important in life. They are of upmost importance to a leader because they act as the filters in decision-making and behavior. In this sense, a leader runs every situation through their set of values to see how potential outcomes hold up or falter based on their values. Eric Pierce, a guest speaker in our class, described this idea by stating that our values, combined with our knowledge and skills, were the driving force of our behavior norms. In addition, Dr. Lindsay discusses the importance of morals in platinum leaders by what he calls the ethics of conviction. This holds that platinum leaders are true to their moral principles regardless of the outcome (122). The fact that so many platinum leaders hold strong morals made me look into my own values. Through this course and some self-reflection, I have identified three values that I see as being significantly important to being a successful leader in the field of Dentistry. They are maintaining Christ at the center of my work, implementing integrity in all situations, and maintaining a healthy work/life balance. I am interested to see how you have upheld these values over the past five years and if they you still hold these values in esteem as you enter private

According to Avolio, Luthans, and Walumbwa (2004), authentic leaders refers to people who “are deeply aware of how they think and behave and others perceive them as leaders capable of adjusting to their own and others' values/moral perspective, knowledge, and strengths; aware of the context in which they operate; and who are confident, hopeful, optimistic, resilient, and high on moral character” (p. 4). Furthermore, Luthans & Avolio (2003), describe authentic leadership as “root construct that could incorporate charismatic, transformational, integrity and/or ethical leadership” (p.4), however, they argued that these theories were different from each other. In addition, the key to authentic leadership includes Self-awareness, openness, transparency,…

Effective leaders come from all sizes, colors and religions. There are countless qualities that build an impressive leader. The two that are crucial, in my opnion, are effective communication and respect. Displaying these and other qualities is important and doing so has impacted my life as well as the lives of the people around me. Effective communication is a key component of leadership because many problems arise from substandard communication skills and when appropriate commendation is handed out it is more likely that the entire group will thrive.…

Numerous studies have shown that a healthy workplace environment improves quality care to patients, and increases the productivity of an institution (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario [RNAO], 2013). This can be achieved through an effective interprofessional collaboration and teamwork among health care providers (RNAO, 2013). In the current healthcare setting, multiple professionals collaborate to provide an exceptional patient-centred care. It is inevitable that one discipline leads other caregivers to resolve patients’ health problem. An exemplary leader should not only promote interprofessional collaboration among the followers, but also should encourage others to lead when his or her expertise is needed.…

Mindy Gibbins-Klein once shared, "Leadership is having a vision, sharing that vision and inspiring others to support your vision while creating their own. " A leader projects their personality beyond what they personally and actively do to inspire the characteristics of a leader in others. Integrity is often one of the expected and trusted characteristic that a leader projects. Leadership and integrity, though often expressed within the realm of academic performance, can be easily expanded to include situations outside of the academic world.…

The construct of Authentic Leadership Theory is relatively new to the research of leadership. It was not until the late 2000s when several contemporary events suchlike the final crisis in 2008 in the United States along with other ethical scandals challenged scholars to research further from the conventional leadership theories that have left unanswered gaps on the study of leadership. Definition of Authentic Leadership Shapira-Lishchinsky & Levy-Gazenfrantz (2015) define Authentic Leadership as the genuine kind of leadership with a visionary and creative response to social circumstances. My Leadership Philosophy in today’s Army and how to be an effective Leader for My subordinates is very important to me. A good effective leader as they step into a new Organization will watch to see how things are being done. As a leader on my first day I would sit down with my whole organization and introduce myself to give and overview of what I have done throughout my career. I will then layout all my expectations to all of my subordinates at each level so they know what they will be expected to accomplish in their duties.…

Leadership is crucial to the success of any team, business, or group that strives to reach a common goal. Leadership is so crucial to success, that any group cannot function without some sort of leader. Often people are the most qualified for this position among their peers but they are unsure on how to handle certain situations. They can easily make fatal mistakes that jeopardize their group or they can make transformational benefits to their group. At the beginning of my senior football season, I read “The Team Captain’s leadership Manual” by Jeff Janseen.…

Servant Orientation Another element or characteristic of a Pauline leadership theory includes an orientation toward service. In his letter to the Romans, Paul calls himself “a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle […](Romans 1;1), while indicating that he is “obligated” (Romans 1:14) to those he has been called to share the Gospel. This is unmistakably an element of Paul’s own perspective of his role as an apostle, and as a servant of Christ. This duality of mission and obligation to those who are in need of the Gospel define his orientation toward service.…
