Competent communication among significant project participants has been comprehended as one of the biggest challenges being faced by the construction industry. Mobile technologies have evolved rapidly over the past few years, many of which are affecting construction firms’ typical project management strategies. However, most firms are still at the initial stage of adopting them. This study aims to investigate the current practice of the mobile technologies in firms’ paperless work environment and to scrutinize the impact that they have on production performance. These objectives will be achieved by executing a qualitative analysis through a 3-stage systematic approach, as; literature survey, interviews, and case studies. Use of 3G/4G has augmented data transmission capabilities with the speeds of 5-25 Mbit/s (Irizarry 2009). Hardware and software interoperability instills another obstacle in the use of information technology at construction sites (Mills and Chen 2008). However, mobile technology has become a vital essence for amendments in the field of construction management. Effective communication between the stakeholders of the project is imperative in order to achieve the prerequisite productivity (Cordova 2014). Smart-phones are conceivably used in order to retrospect, alter and refurbish data and drawings, pertaining to the project and make them available to every stakeholder of the project situated in remote places. Moreover, assessment of mobile technology in current practices is required among construction stakeholders. This research paper exalts employment of mobile technology as a complimentary communication tool that would enhance the applicability and reciprocity of information among different parties involved. The industry is moving from cardboard data storage to a paperless work environment surrounded by diminishing paper usage and increasing yield aided by advanced technology.
