John 17:14; “I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” This scripture has impressed my mind when the stresses of the world apply their chokeholds and temptations. Never has it filled my mind as often, or sent more solace and strengthened reassurance than since I have been feasting on the teachings and examples of Christ in these four New Testament Gospels.
My sister is an atheist. She is in "satan 's power" and she makes known that she resents what I stand for and believe. I sense a real hostility from within her, and it seems to be envy tangled with anger and hatred. However, as I become more like Christ, "even as I am not of the world," I rely more on the Spirit. I am given "power" from above to not be of this world. I can better show compassion, yet still hold steadfast to the truths I have been given when my sister provokes contention.

Previously I had allowed Christ 's opening words of this scripture to be overshadowed by the more memorable and well-cited ending, "not of the world." Since I have been "given," and feast daily, on these words and teachings, I have grown more Christ-like. Thus, more able to be in the world but not of the world. What a blessing these Holy Scriptures can become to us if we feast upon them.
One heartfelt desire of mine is to show my love for the Saviour and to develop spiritual awareness to match that of Mary 's, the sister of Lazarus, as she anointed the feet of Jesus. John 12:3 tell us, "Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment." Mary, above all others, was spiritually in-tune, thus had more knowledge and understanding of the Saviour than even Christ 's chosen
