John 17-14 Analysis

John 17:14; “I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” This scripture has impressed my mind when the stresses of the world apply their chokeholds and temptations. Never has it filled my mind as often, or sent more solace and strengthened reassurance than since I have been feasting on the teachings and examples of Christ in these four New Testament Gospels.
My sister is an atheist. She is in "satan 's power" and she makes known that she resents what I stand for and believe. I sense a real hostility from within her, and it seems to be envy tangled with anger and hatred. Envy for the inner peace, God-given strength, and understanding of life 's purpose that I

However, as I become more like Christ, "even as I am not of the world," I rely more on the Spirit. I am given "power" from above to not be of this world. I can better show compassion, yet still hold steadfast to the truths I have been given when my sister provokes contention.
John 17: 14 begins with, “I have given them thy word." Previously I had allowed Christ 's opening words of this scripture to be overshadowed by the more memorable and well-cited ending, "not of the world." Since I have been "given," and feast daily, on these words and teachings, I have grown more Christ-like. Thus, more able to be in the world but not of the world. What a blessing these Holy Scriptures can become to us if we feast upon them.
One heartfelt desire of mine is to show my love for the Saviour and to develop spiritual awareness to match that of Mary 's, the sister of Lazarus, as she anointed the feet of Jesus. John 12:3 tell us, "Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment." Mary, above all others, was spiritually in-tune, thus had more knowledge and understanding of the Saviour than even Christ 's chosen

VI. Liturgical Analysis Another way to examine this scriptural passage is liturgically or how the Church today keeps the Gospel in living Tradition. This is important because the Gospels and scripture are not just for the times they happened but they are read and explained especially during the liturgy of the mass because they are words that all peoples should live by. John 2:1-11 is proclaimed during the second Sunday in ordinary time. Paired with the Gospel are two readings; the first being from the book of Isaiah and the second reading is from the book of Corinthians.…

John's relationship with the church during the latter years of his life was a rather turbulent one, which underwent several changes. The turmoil began upon Hubert Walter's death in 1205, when it could not be decided who was going to be the new Archbishop of Canterbury. It could be argued that this was a change in John's relationship with the church, but it is perhaps more significant that it was the catalyst for a huge chain of events that would change John's relationship with the Church more significantly. Some historians hold the view that 'the basic cause of the quarrel was the issue of who was to appoint the archbishop of Canterbury when Hubert Walter died in 1205'.1 The schism created by the opposing opinions on who was to be elected as Archbishop of Canterbury was hugely significant, and in a letter to from Pope Innocent III to the bishops in England, in 1207, Innocent writes that John is 'persecuting'2 Stephen Langton.…

I learned a great deal about the nature of my faith from this semester due to my study of the Gospel of John. The stories in the gospel are so important for modern Christianity because the obstacles to a strong faith were generally the same in the time of Jesus as they are now. The most evident issue to me is the need for people to see the work of God with their own eyes. Therefore, their faith is contingent upon them being able to see the works of God which defeats the whole purpose of Faith. There are two books within the Gospel of John that display this issue and many others.…

(ESV). Although only God and oneself can cultivate a true relationship, Christians are called to encourage one another in following God and have fellowship with each other. Humans have the decision to encourage others toward Christ or to push others away from Christ every day. C.S. Lewis makes it clear that human interaction, positive or negative, can make an impact on eternity. Because all people’s souls are at stake, Christians must work to eliminate ungodly exchanges with one another and instead increase pure and strengthening discussions with whoever they may encounter.…

But I knew and felt it when I didn’t sit down to spend time with God. It’s a discipline that I am training in. I want to have scripture in my heart, and I want to know Jesus more so I can be more like Him. And I want to be more like Him so that others can taste and see that He is good. I saw that spending time in the Word was important more in this year than I ever had before.…

“I am gay,” Jonathan, my long time friend, whispered to me as I sat across from him eating my Chipotle burrito bowl. Many thoughts raced through my mind as I searched for the proper words to respond. I struggled not because his revelation changed my opinion towards him, but as the first person he confided in, I wanted to reassure him that this has not changed the love and the sense of belonging between us. We live in the “Bible Belt” of America, which holds strong conservative cultural and religious views, so Jonathan was facing a daunting task of revealing his sexual orientation.…

John 6:1-14 serves as a “reminiscent of the miraculous feeding through Moses” during the wandering in the wilderness “following their exodus from Egypt and preceding their entrance into the promised land” (Exodus 16:4-36), events commemorated by the Passover feast (Heil, 53). In John 6:1-14, Jesus feeds a crowd of about five thousand (6:10) with the overabundance of bread and fish (6:5-13) when the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near (6:4). All the events of John 6 are placed in a Passover context (6:4). The fact that a large crowd of people was following Jesus and seeing the signs He was performing on the sick (6:2) tells readers of the further signs: the theme of believing in Jesus as the sacrificial Passover lamb of God central to…

Paul’s inaugural address in Philippians 1:3-11 gives thanks to God and expresses joy for the effectual, transformative work of Christ that courses through lives of the Philippians believers, which has caused them to be partners “in the gospel from the first day until now” (v.5). Yet, Paul does not conclude his salutation with thanksgiving and rejoicing. Rather, Paul sees the gospel work through an eschatological lens evidenced through his assurance in that “he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (v. 6). Therefore, concludes his greeting with a prayer that their love would “abound more and more” so that they would be “pure and blameless in the day of Christ […] to the glory and praise of God” (v. 9-11).…
