Whitening cream is the products which emphasizes on moisturising skin and making skin lighter (“Skin Whitening Cream”, n.d.). This kind of products is very popular because many people obsess in having lightening skin while only few people were naturally born with white skin. Composing with the media that brainwash people’s mind, the advertisement of whitening cream mostly presents the idea of praising individuals who have white skin. Consequently, individuals’ idea have changed by many factors including media. People have less self-confidence on their skin and obsess alternative ways to make their skin lighter. The paper argue that many people around the world obsess on whitening cream due to several factors. It looks at historical attitude, media advertisement and the current social value. However, there is an argument that consumers have their own freedom to do what they want.

The sight of their skin in the reflection of their mirrors brings them shame because they disappoint in their own skin color. (Usman, 2014). It becomes the idea that the lighter of skin tone is the more attractive and successful in life. Hence, many people turn to consume skin whitening products, such as creams or even bleach serum to attain lighter skin. The fact shows that skin-whitening creams are incredibly popular in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In India, sales of skin-whitening cream were 258 tons in 2012, and the global market of skin whitening products is predicted to be around 19.8 billion dollars by 2018 (Thompson, 2014). Additionally, the advertising of whitening cream companies also represents lighter toned women as more successful, more confident, and more attractive while darker toned women are stagnant in self-disgust (Rajesh, 2013).
