2.1 An explanation of the importance of safeguarding children and young people
Every child has the right to be safe and it is everyone's responsibility to ensure this.
Safeguarding is protecting a child from maltreatment; preventing impairment to health and development and ensuring that child are growing up in circumstances which provide consistent and effective care regardless of their ability, background or ethnicity.
A comprehensive range of legislation, statutory guidance and policies in place to ensue this. In short all this legislation, statutory guidance and policies highlight and confirm that all adults, especially those who work with children, have a responsibility to safeguard children and young people from harm. As professionals and practitioners, it is important to understand that we have a duty to ensure that children and young people are protected while they are in our care and in a school, educational setting and that where there may be other concerns outside of the school setting, that these are investigated fully.
In view of the above school policies and procedures need to be such that both parents and governors of the school are aware of them and that staff are fully trained with regard to safeguarding issues.

Those different agencies and organisations, including the health, education and social services have a number of different duties and responsibilities. It is important that they communicate and work in partnership to ensure the safety and protection of children. Together they will be able to identify the needs of the child and can deliver support where needed through their own areas of expertise. The common Assessment Framework can be beneficial to parents because through it they can find out the needs of a child without going to different
