High school girls varsity Basketball player Ashley Marcos had an successful high school career then went to play at University of Dubuque for four years. Julie Marcos her older sisters who pushed her to become a better player and it cost a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. She knew her sister shoving and unnecessary elbows flying was for the greater good. "It didn't take long for Ashley to figure out how it's going to be." It took a while, however, for the purpose of the tough love to sink in. Screaming and glaring were commonplace” (Haye). Ashley knew what was coming she was prepared to work hard and fight through the pain. Another example is host of “The Weakest Link” Anne Robinson. She’s famous for embarrassing contestants on her show disrespecting them with rude comments and mockery. It is like tough love she tells them they are the weakest or an embarrassment then she sees if “They're quick, they answer back, they have the courage to take you on and they are also able to do more than one task at once. All the most successful people are motivated by a fear of failure. It's no different than taking over a major corporation and having to fight for success” (Rakoff). She wants to see them overcome her spitefulness nature and bring that courage to answer back or show them their full potential. The potential that can also give them a chance to be successful in the show.
In conclusion, tough love has both pros and cons. Its effects vary from each person but overall children shouldn’t receive excessive harsh punishment and receive similar treatment as real crime committing criminals in prison.
